Stories: The One-Armed Beckman

From Russ Marshall:

Phil Beckman was a bit before my time. I had never met him, but he seemed to be a legend with the older guys. One day he came in to do a show in the studio in the temporary building (1968-69?). First, he did something I had never seen before ... he apparently traveled around with his own "presence enhancer" device, which he proceeded to jumper into the audio signal for his show. But what was really interesting was that one of his arms was in a cast. Now most of us would either assume we couldn't run the board (or at least would have made a mess of it), but Beckman proceeded to run one of the best shows I had ever heard ... with one arm ... as if nothing was amiss.
